So I Was Listening To A Podcast

Whether it’s my husband, my friend Clairice, or the other people in my life, many conversations start with, “So, I was listening to a podcast”. (I actually don’t listen to podcasts. I’m more of a radio junkie and a music listener, in fact, I am currently streaming my local community station & geeking out over Radiothon.)

The thing is… I really look forward to these discussions, It usually means the next bit of info that follows will 90% of the time be extremely fascinating! Do you listen to podcasts, if so, what are some of your favorites?

October

November 6, 2012 — 1 Comment

So October was kind of a whirlwind for me. It was full of overwhelming stress and overflowing with many amazing things.

  • KRCL’s fall Radiothon took place during early October. Our listeners, as always, came together to raise over $229,000 for the station!!! Woot woot!
  • I was interviewed by Gavin Sheehan of Gavin’s Underground (a Salt Lake City Weekly blog), You can read the interview here.
  • I was asked by SLUG Magazine (Salt Lake UnderGround) to interview Oliver Ackermann of New York noise-rockers A Place To Bury Strangers. The interview ended up becoming the cover story, you can read it here
  • I was asked by the amazing SLUG Magazine to be involved with “A Dash Of Local Art“, an art show that takes place in conjunction with various local Whole Foods. I jumped at the opportunity and my gig posters were on display at the Sugar House location through October.
  • My Sleigh Bells gig poster was featured on the design blog From Up North.
  • My husband & I celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary.
  • KRCL, KRCL & more KRCL. Every year, KRCL hosts an even called ‘The Polar Jubilee’… it’s basically KRCL’s birthday party. I was delighted to be asked to produce the visuals for this years event. I should mention that the theme of the party changes year to year, last year was a circus theme, this years theme is ‘Surfin’ Safari’.

I need to thank those who kept pushing me, believing in me & kept me on task throughout October. I am truly blessed to be surrounded by you.

I’m back, bring on November!

Hey there, sorry it’s been awhile. I spent last week mostly under the weather. I’m back, and ready to get on track. First, I have another radio thingy to talk about before I return to patterns. As I mentioned in this post, Radiothon is rapidly approaching. Depending on giving level, listeners will receive thank you gifts from the station. This Locals Only Vol. 2 CD showcasing some stellar Utah talent, happens to be one of the many gifts.

Golden Oldies

Valentine’s Day isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, so KRCL is getting down with the lovebirds and lonely hearts the evening after Cupid hits town. KRCL and the Salt Lake Downtown Alliance invite you to party with KRCL on February 15 at the Rose Establishment (located on 235 W. 400 South) with me, Courtney, host of Afternoon Delight. I’ll be spinning a set of golden oldies to get you in the mood for snuggling and dancing in the dark. Woo your date or fight with your ex to the sounds of Betty Davis, Lee Fields, Kings Go Forth and Ike & Tina. Music & drinks flow from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Additional details online at www.krcl.org

Radio. Radio.

Have I mentioned that I volunteer at a little Salt Lake community radio station, KRCL? For over 30 years now this commercial free station has continued to operate mostly by volunteers. I began as a listener of KRCL in the late 90’s. Around 2004 I made my first donation to the station and quickly found myself making contributions every six months coinciding with Radiothon.

I must come clean, my friends find me extremely annoying this time of year. You see, I get kinda preachy and very stressed. During the last 3 years I have provided the station with various ads to communicate events including Radiothon.
