Hello! Hello! Is this thing on? It’s been awhile since I posted here, sorry, but things have been busy as of late. Most of my free time is being spent creating goods for the local annual craft show, Craft Lake City. This will be the first time I’m selling goods at a show, luckily I am sharing a booth with my uber talented friend & my design soul mate, Clairce Gifford of Nifty Swank. She’s a semi-seasoned craft show vendor. This card is currently available in my Big Cartel shop!
Archives For lettering
I have a creative friend who entered my life a few months ago. We only met a handful of times, but I believe we found inspiration and teachings from one another. She is about to embark on a new life chapter, moving across the U.S. to NYC for a dream job opportunity. I just wanted to wish her good luck and to say thanks. Myself and the community of SLC will miss you. Purchase this print here.
A few months ago I was contacted by Eliza Cerdeiros, the creator of the Motivational Monday project, to do a guest post. I said yes & started think of a motivational phrase to letter. As time went on I found myself struggling trying to come up with something. One day while at work I decided to listen to my Erykah Badu collection, especially since she’s coming to town in August as part of the Twilight Concert Series. I put the songs on random & two songs in “Didn’t Cha Know” came on & the line “I was born to make mistakes, but I ain’t scared to take the weight” hit me & I knew I had to letter it. You can buy this print on my Big Cartel Shop or My Etsy Shop.
I know I’ve talked about the Twilight Concert Series on this blog before… basically it’s one of the best things the city of Salt Lake has to offer. Every summer the City Arts Council continues impress me with the quality of artists they bring to the stage. This year the beautiful & inspirational Erykah Badu with grace the stage on August 8th.
My love for Badu began in the late 90s while I was working a record store. For months my best friend & coworker would pop in her 1997 debut Baduizm or Live album in during our morning shifts & jam our day away. Luckily the two of us were still working the same store when Badu released her 2000 release, Mama’s Gun. Whoa!!! The album instantly became a favorite! The track that seems to stick with me is “Didn’t Cha Know”, I always find myself relating to it with each listen.
In 2007 an opportunity the two of us thought would never happen, happened. Erykah Badu visited SLC! The evening blew our minds. We cried, we carried big ass smiles on our faces, it was a true night to remember. In 2008, Badu released the brilliant, New Amerykah Pt. 1: 4th World War, this to me is the record that could very well top them all.
Okay, okay, the fact that Badu is returning to SLC is a blessing in my eyes. Thank you City Arts Council.
First of all, I would like to thank those who purchased my Mother’s Day card! After the release of that card, I received many requests for a Father’s Day companion. After a few days / weeks trying to come up with a phrase & a little help from a friend 😉 I finally settled… here is the end result. You can purchase them here on Big Cartel or here on Etsy!
Since Mother’s Day is coming up, I decided to hand letter a card for my mom & make it available for purchase. I know the phrase is a little untraditional, but what can I say… my mom IS a badass & I know a few expecting mothers who also fall into the category of badassery!
Everything about 2012’s ‘The Haunted Man, the third release from English singer-songwriter Natasha Kahn (AKA Bat For Lashes) gorgeous. The album ended up being one of my top five favorite releases of last year. On ‘The Haunted Man‘, Kahn lets her guard down, explores lush soundscapes and throws herself into every word of the evocative moving lyrics, her vocals are softer showing someone who is deeply hurt.
To me, the track “Laura” is extremely powerful with it’s simpleness that features only a piano and delicate horns floating in the distance. I find Kahn’s voice is so powerful here & I get emotional with every listen, it’s simple the finest song she’s written. One line from the song strikes me every time… “You’re the train that crashes my heart.”
